cakes glorious cakes!

Most people take January as a time to detox after Christmas... however I have party after party thanks to many people I know being born in January - family and kids of the small variety. This involves many bad meals and cake!

So while I have eaten some yummy bad things I have done it in moderation!!

At my Mums birthday we had Indian - I had just one bowl and 1 small slice of cake when I so could have gone more. I felt good for not overdoing things like I so easily can!
Yesterday I went to a first birthday party and steered clear of the chippies and instead ate the carrot sticks and the skinless chicken lovely legs that had been oven baked. I did eat a huge piece of cake though which made me feel bad. On the way home I was so hungry for something filling and good for me - I realised at this point the lack of easy food that is good for you, especially if you suffer from intollerance or allergy! So I stopped at nightowl, got some udon noodles and chinese vegies and made a soup - hit the spot and was good for me.

On other news - I am thinking about getting back into running. I used to love to run, but having kids really put the brakes on that one. Now that they are getting older I am going to start seeing if I can fit in an evening run on the beach about 7:30 after I put Keira down. I really need to do more exercise and I especially need a little something extra as when Uni goes back I will not be able to go to Wednesday derby sessions for 10 weeks!!

What the.... ?

with all the parties and birthdays of late I have been trying to be good - just a small piece of cake etc.. but this morning when I put on my normally tightish shorts they were tiiiiiiight. I also weigh like a kilo more this morning then normal, so praying it is just water weight as I feel super bloaty.

Otherwise today I made a sugar coma inducing cake which I think I burned off more calories making then I did eating it! I made marshmallow fondant which was a pain to make - was an hour of stirring and kneading and swearing until I got it right!

Tomorrow I will be skating - hopefully! Even if it is water weight, I still need to shift this bloat :D

cancelled!!

Today derby was cancelled. I was having one of those days where you dont do much, because you know something awesome is coming. I then get the text... was gutted! I thought, well there goes my Sunday.

BUT.... to the rescue .... my lovely Derby widow!! He says well throw your skates in the car and lets take the kids out so you can go for a skate! What an awesome afternoon we had! i got to skate outdoors on a nice deserted road while J and Ryan flew a kite and Keira squealed with delight over both the kite and her mummy skating (she was awfully impressed by the skating - I think that she is a future derby girl!!) After skating up and down for about an hour or so we then took the kidlets for a walk on the beach and then home for pizza (minus the cheese) !

So my day ended up being AWESOME!

exercise:
floor exercises with kidlets (way to add weight when doing ab work)
1 - 2 hours skating
45 min walk on beach and chasing of toddler!

The best thing about my day!

Have you ever noticed that when someone asks how our day was we often groan and say "dont ask!" and how is work, "oh you know... work". When you recount your day do you let out your frustrations of best laid plans going wrong, idiots on the road, people not listening to you, long lines at the shops? However do you think about or talk about all the little awesome things that happened to you that day?

Why do we relive our down points and not roll around in the positives? (get it... roll around!)

So now at the end of the day I think of all the super awesome little things that happened to me and share them with my family. I ask them what theirs was and we have a fun conversation to end the day... did anything bad even happen? I just dont remember anymore :D

Today I spent the day with my family.
My sick little girls fever came down and by this afternoon she seems back to herself.
When I went to the shop nearly everything I was there to buy was on special!!
I made banana muffins
I bought new stationary from office works. (I am addicted to paper and pens and all that stuff)
My kids played quietly the whole time I made dinner.
Dinner was YUM!

Today was a good day. Tomorrow I have Roller Derby... so it can only be like a million times better! :D :D

be all that you can be...

which is hard when you have been up since 4 am - looked after a sick baby and amused a toddler while shopping for a birthday present and at 10:42pm you have only just put the sick baby down again.

All I can be right now is asleep and hopefully for more then 2 - 3 hours :D

what do I want to be? I want to be a super fit, kick ass skater!

how will I get there? By not letting any obstacles permanently block my path! That is my new thing - if there is something in the way - skate around it or jump over it!! :D :D

Food:
thank god I only had 1 slice of chocolate in the house because lindt 70% in half with peanut butter in the middle is pure HEAVEN!!
Dodge I would love to be honest like you, but you will be shocked with how much I eat ! Here is today (not the best example, because I was feeling crappy & starving) so to make you feel better this is what a blow out should look like:

BREAKFAST:
peanut butter sandwich
SECOND BREAKFAST: (yes I do this - I do it every day. I can not live on 1 breakfast - however it is usually a toast/sandwich and then cereal or fruit or eggs type combo made at home)
bacon and egg mcmuffin minus the cheese and minus the egg as the egg was crap looking - I so should have just had the poached egg on toast I was going to do at home!
leading on from that a small coke and a bite of a hash brown (the toddler saved me from the rest)
LUNCH:
Avocado sushi rolls (only ate 2 as they were crap) so was replaced by restaurant with teriyaki chicken. I ate maybe 1/2 of this at most as was shared with toddler and baby who love japanese food.
BAD SNACK:
1.5 hot cinnamon doughnuts - I had been walking for ages at this point and it was bribery to keep the toddler moving. I felt bad about this and worried the entire time that I already let him eat a hash brown that morning and that he was going to develop heart disease at the age if 5! Then I remembered that I am actually a food nazi with my kids and he isnt allowed to drink juice as a general rule and his diet is 99% of the time made up of homemade and whole ingrediant foods I make myself - so what if we splurge one day - that is what life is about!
moving on...
GOOD SNACK:
Banana
DINNER:
2 lamb chops, trimmed of all fat some carrot, corn, brocolli and quinoa that was left over from dinner the night before. I ate all this in the kitchen one handed while consoling crying sick baby and yelling at toddler to eat his vegetables and telling him tales of the amazing quinoa and what it will do for him if he eats it.
POST DINNER SNACK:
1 piece of lindt 70% and a dash of PB. heaven!

thought about ice cream (soy) did not go there. Thought about alcohol - also avoided. So for a crappy I had 2 hours sleep the night before and dealing with a very sick baby I think I did ok. Let downs - I did not eat enough fruit and vege. Positives - I drank lots of water all day and I didnt go for snacks as much as I really wanted too!!!

I am still here!

Sorry for the break, but it is for the most stupid of reasons! I went to write something and blogger had signed me out, so I could not be bothered to sign back in!
Other reasons include, but are not limited to:
  • We had some family come and visit
  • there were floods
  • I was trying to dry out downstairs and save my house from the mould invasion
  • we had family come to visit (seriously this took up so much time it had to be put in twice)
  • oh and did I mention the floods?
  • Ryan had an appointment at hear and say - this takes over half a day - he did so well!
  • Keira had to get her genetic testing done (was more painful for me then her!)
  • Keira has also been sick with lots of icky stuff coming out of her ... you DO NOT want to hear about that!
  • ummm.. .is that enough excuses for lack of posting?
Where am I at in roller derby land... Training started again and I was so happy! Started with Jacks as I didnt yet have my clearance letter from physio saying - hit people hard. At the end of training I was so sore all over my whole body. My feet hurt so much I could barely walk. but in saying that I was so happy!

Wednesday night I was back at training again and really enjoyed it, until I strained my hip flexor! wtf!! thank god we train with a physio who knew what I did and how to treat it. I went home in so much pain and barely able to walk - cried lots and rang my mum. layed on ice at home and cried some more. in the morning it was feeling alot better, still hurt to move certain ways, but was not aching otherwise. Went to see my physio on Friday and get my clearance letter... happened to tell her about the hip flexor and was given a little talking to about making sure I am very warmed up and if I am feeling twinges then to take it easy - my body is trying to tell me shit while it recovers to 100% .... Then as if by magic I realised on Saturday I had not felt one twinge in ages! I love when bodies get all better nice and quick.

I was then excited to get back to Sunday training and to skate with my Queens... but alas the horrid bug that Keira has had she passed onto my Mum (designated babysitter since J was working). got a call at 10am ... was sad. Keira must have known as she then decided to poo all day for me. At least Ryan was really good, poor kid must be so stircrazy and housebound. If it is not the rain, it is his poo machine sister keeping us in.

So how have I been with food?
wellllll I made some super yummy banana loaf and ate lots of it and I am trialing a choc cake mix for Keiras birthday and ate lots of those muffins...
I really should not try to follow a diet plan as I suck at it!
I did start following the Roller Derby workout diet until I realised half way through day 1 - I am breastfeeding and I must make sure to eat enough to produce BM too. So except for the little holiday I took with some crap this past week, I will return to normal tomorrow.

Exercise
Other then my 2 roller derby days, I have been doing my physio exercises and walking with the kids on the beach a couple of times.
tonight while I was trying to get Keira to sleep I did like 50 squats, 20 lunges each leg and when I was holding her to try and get her to sleep I did the little hip check squats with the cot! It took me 30 mins to get her down, so that was 30 mins of by the cot exercise.
I am about to head to bed now, so might do some crunches and some tricep dips since Dodge put me to shame and INSPIRED me with her awesomeness on Wednesday night :D

so here is to getting back on track and keeping away from the chocolate muffins.

BamBam Pow :D

I finally went to the gym tonight and did a Boxercise class. I really enjoyed it - gave my upperbody an awesome workout and cardio was up there. Boxing was the best stress relief - Bam, Bam Pow!

So I also went to another gym to have a look around and I have come to the conclusion that I don't want to join a gym. They are expensive and not something that I have the money for. My kids, uni, house and derby will not always give me time to get there more then once a week at the MOST! I will spend more time on the beach walking/playing with the kids, in the yard or at the park. This is my life... so while I really enjoy doing some classes, given the lack of flexibility in my life I think that I will only pay per class that I go to. SO Ms Dodge I will put it back on you to encourage the shit out of me if I am slacking off too much or complaining that I am just not improving etc..

Now for confession time (good and bad):
at the Gym we had to do this circuit with things like 30 sit ups, 100 punches, 10 squat jumps (totally rocked these thank you Derby thighs!) and while it was hard I am proud to say I counted every thing I had to do and did every single one!

Food wise I had such good plans and I did *mostly* stick with it. I did have the skin free chicken for dinner with steamed vege, I did have the salad with trim lamb for lunch (no cheese or dressing) I did drink plenty of water ... BUT I also ate a dairy free lamington and some chocolate soy ice cream. It was in the freezer and it was the last one - I know I shouldnt do it, but I was feeling a little low before the gym and just could not resist. I felt terrible afterwards for not eating some fruit instead. I think that coming down from all the crap food will be baby steps this week (you know what I am talking about).

SO now there is no bad food left in my house. There is no Chocolate, no coke, no cakes, no biccies (that I can eat anyways). I have done all my shopping with the exception of fruit and vege - and for the next week I will not be buying any food that is not in my house (except more milk and bread). So NO snacks, no chocolate, no chips and no take away. well ... I am going to the movies tomorrow, but I will have coles organic popcorn and sushi for lunch! I will keep you posted on how that goes!

is that a CHALLENGE??

Ok we are 5 days into the new year and I have been up and down and all around with my fitness regime. So it is time to get serious!

Last night I went for a walk on the beach with the kids - I had Keira strapped to my back, so that was another 9kgs I carried! tonight I am going to the Gym! I am going to do a cardio box class which may very well kill me, but since I need to be up for a 3 hour skate on Burnside glue floor on Sunday, I may as well get started! The only dilemma I have now is this - is it acceptable to wear fishnets and your derby pants to a gym?? :D

food today will be better - I started with a ham sandwich (odd, but it is what I like).
Lunch: green salad with lebanese cucumber and some trimmed lamb
dinner: skinless chicken maryland in the oven with some steamed vege.
snacks: fruit and a corn and chive mini muffin (homemade).

I am also getting set for the Roller Derby Workout Challenge that starts in 4 days! I am worried how I will fit my diet around it, it is already so restrictive I might have to just modify it to fit - so I hope I can.

Midnight and past my bedtime...

I have spent the night watching How I Met your Mother marathon. A waste of time yes, but made me laugh - big yes! I love that show and it really cheered me up! This is something that I needed after reading Dodge&Bolts blog I realise that I am experiencing extreme come down from party season. I think more so because we have had so many things going on, so many people through and on top of all that - no daycare and J and my Mum and partner were all working, so I had to do it all myself. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to me....

However - here are my little darlings - how can you not just love them to pieces :D

So coming off the back of all that I am looking forward. Tomorrow I am going to the gym to check it out! I will eat better and I will organise the shit out of my house. Stupid as that is, it will make me feel better on some level. Oh and I am going to do the Roller Derby workout challenge. Can I do it? time will tell.

Good night bloggerinos x

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows everywhere...

Goodness the sun is out! Went to the beach yesterday and only felt midly like a beached whale at times. Got sunburnt and managed to sunburn up the kids too :( tried to keep shaded and sunscreened up, but the sun was just too much for my pale arsed skin.

We have friends staying with us for New Years, so unfortunately food is not awesome... New years day was a hangover recovery fest... Bacon, french toast, fish and chips, sugar replenishers... seriously BAD!

yesterday was midly better:
Breakfast
2 pieces french toast (I make it with very little marg to none - so it is just like 2 eggs on bread)
Lunch
was at the beach, so just ate a banana and a quarter of Keira's vegemite sanga
Dinner (my downfalling)
3 Tacos and 1 mountain bread Taco ... however as I don't eat dairy these are not that bad - they are chilli mince, carrot, lettuce and a little avo (only had avo on 2).
I also had some desert - 1 dairy and gluten free lamington and a scoop of soy ice cream!

I feel bad right now as I just have not had time to myself for ages and so have not actually fit in any exercise. you might be thinking - what about now? Well right now I am typing this, taking a break to shovel weetbix in my daughters mouth and dealing with Ryan's mozzie bites and insistance that he needs cuddles on lounge. I am also watching my friends daughter who is also up and in a second I will have to go and feed the hungry mob. My day consists of feeding, changing, cuddling and seeing to children in general and it is exhausting. Normally I get a little break, but this is not the case lately. I love my kids, but I need 5 mins to my bloody self before I go a bit nutty.

Today is not going to be a good one. lets hope that the rainbow will be coming.
